PEO introduces the Georadis RT-50 LabCenter food monitor

PEO introduces the Georadis RT-50 LabCenter food monitor for radioactive contamination in food

The impact of the nuclear accident in Japan has immediate consequences regarding radioactive contamination in food. The coming years it will be essential to monitor contamination of soil, food and feedstuff.

The RT-50 measures from 20 Bq/kg. The European Union limits start from 75 Bq/kg, which makes the RT-50 a good solution in food monitoring.

As with the current situation in Japan there are known contaminants and the RT-50 is a economical reliable, easy and fast way to measure radioactive contamination in food.

Measuring times are less than 10 minutes Georadis resulting in sensitivities of about 1/5th of the required limit for iodine-131, caesium-134 and caesium-137.

advantages

  • no cooling
  • detection from 20 Bq/kg
  • 1024 channel multi-channel analyser (MCA)
  • speed
  • efficiency
  • ease of use
  • analysis data

characterizations

How is the expected sensitivity achieved?

  • efficient shielding (steel with a minimum of 85 mm) to eliminate influence of local background
  • optional lead shield for a lower background (region 100- 400 keV)
  • big 3” x  3” NaI detector to ensure efficiency of detection
  • 250 ml sample containers to measure raw between 150 – 1000 grams
  • suitable calibration standards for used geometry (it is important if calibration is for volume 250 ml)
  • proven and traceable evaluation methods

application

  • food and food processing industry
  • steel, scrap and other metal industry
  • geology and geophysics

PEO delivers the Georadis RT-50 LabCenter food monitor for radioactive contamination in food

The impact of the nuclear accident in Japan has consequences regarding radioactive contamination in food. In the next years it will be essential to monitor contamination of soils, food and

feedstuff.

The RT-50 measures from 20 Bq/kg. The European Union limits start from 75 Bq/kg, which makes the RT-50 a good solution in food monitoring.

As with the current situation in Japan there are known contaminants and the RT-50 is a reliable, easy and fast way to measure radioactive contamination in food.

With measuring times of less than 10 minutes Georadis can guarantee sensitivities of

about 1/5th of the required limit for iodine-131, caesium-134 and caesium-137.
